The Village of Pinecrest’s history is as impressive as its beauty. During the 1900’s famous Miami pioneer and railroad tycoon Henry Flagler used Pinecrest as a staging area during the construction of the Overseas Railroad all the way to Key West. In the 1930’s Parrot Jungle was founded by Franz and Louise Scherr on a 20-acre parcel for a free flying parrot exhibit. What is unique about this area it that is had remained untouched showcasing its natural beauty from native plants, flowers and animals.

The Village of Pinecrest is also nationally recognized as a Tree City USA, by the Arbor Day Foundation in recognition of the Village’s continuous commitment to community forestry. This recognition was received after the Village planted over 10,000 trees since 1997. Other designations held by the Village of Pinecrest are Playful City USA and a Community of Respect.  In 2011, the South Florida Business Journal recognized Pinecrest as one of the ten best places in Florida for "quality of life."
